The garage sale started off with a bang! Customers were waiting for set up to be complete and everyone picked up bargains galore! We received so many donations toward the sale that not all of the items would fit into the garage on Friday!!
Friday continued to be busy until the sky started to cloud up...
With the help of volunteers, we were able to get most of the sale itmes under cover or on the porches. Then it started to rain....
and rain....
and rain!!!
About an hour later we were able to open the sale back up.
So many items sold on Friday we were able to pack everything into the garage Friday night.
Saturday when we opened there weren't as many items.
This young shopper found a bargain book!!
Another garage sale has come and gone -
I want to personally thank everyone who contributed items to the sale -
Volunteers who worked setting up and pricing items -
and Volunteers who worked the sale itself.
A specail thank you to John Stowell and Wendell Spencer for the use of their trucks for moving tables and merchandise before and after the sale.

Passport to the Past activities are held during the annual Covered Bridge Festival which is always held the 2nd full weekend in October. In conjunction with other community groups, the Madison County Historical Society provides historical and educational activities for families attending festival activities. Each child receives a passport listing activities to choose from. Once 4 activities are completed the passport can be turned in for a grand prize. A small token is awarded at each activity so if there isn’t time to finish 4 activities each child still receives a reward.
The purpose of Passport to the Past is to introduce Madison County history to children. Our county is full of historic figures and stories to be shared. Did you know the Delicious Apple was discovered in Madison County? Jesse Hiatt’s story of the Delicious Apple will be shared at passport stations.
2008 activities are in the planning stage and include the following:
1. Meet Col. Cummings, Madison County Civil War veteran, at Monumental Park
2. Listen to a story at the Storytelling Tent located on the courthouse lawn
3. Create art at the Winterset Art Center
4. Have fun at the Winterset Library meeting room learning about historical figures
5. Visit the Madison County Historical Complex and attend a one room school lesson at Tusha School or visit with the Civil War encampment soldiers
6. Walk through the fire safety truck located in front of the old Fireman's Hall and learn about the importance of the fire bell.
7. Do a planting at George Washington Carver Park
8. Take a guided tour of our court house and meet Susan B. Anthony
A FREE Clydesdale horse shuttle will be provided between the Madison County Historical Complex and festival activities located on the town square.
